Why Gamora ruins Hahn’s fantasy for Kathryn survival!
Some have taken that a little too seriously, though, with a recent set photo from the production of the series featuring a blonde woman with a similar stature to Scarlett Johansson making some believe that Natasha Romanoff will appear in some capacity. Upon closer inspection, however, it has become clear that the image is actually of an actress confirmed to appear, Kathryn Hahn.
Although Hahn’s role in the series has yet to be officially announced, evidence points to her playing Agatha Harkness. In the comics, Harkness initially serves as an advisor and teacher-figure for Wanda before transforming into her enemy. She is also one of several powerful characters who assists Wanda in learning more about her own power. Promotional material has yet to reveal the character’s true intentions, but Hahn will appear as a busybody who cannot leave Wanda and Vision alone in their fantasy world, likely forcing Wanda to confront reality.
While it’s entirely possible that Wanda’s manipulation of reality in WandaVision will bring her past, present and future into conflict with one another, the series is still centered around the titular heroes following the events of Avengers: Endgame. Despite Vision’s presence in the series, he is still canonically deceased, having died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s been heavily speculated that Wanda will use her powers to craft a new reality for herself in which Vision survived Thanos and the two can attempt to live a normal life.
With that in mind, it’s more than likely that Natasha will remain dead throughout the events of the series. Wanda did have a strong relationship with Black Widow in the movies and could look to her for guidance in some way, but bringing Natasha back in an alternate reality before the release of her solo movie seems unlikely.
For the official return of Natasha Romanoff, fans will just have to wait until the 2021 release of her solo film, Black Widow, which will take place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, long before her death. Like Gamora, Black Widow was killed as a result of getting the Soul Stone, and thus she was not able to be resurrected in Avengers: Endgame. As such, it’s unlikely anything else will be able to bring her back to life, and the Black Widow film will be Natasha’s final adventure in the MCU.
